Anime Earworms: The 10 Catchiest Theme Songs

I’m not going to go so far as to say that a theme song is something that will ‘make or break’ an anime series. I will say however that a good opening theme song is pretty important in terms of setting the mood and getting someone in the right frame of mind for what they are about to watch. Sometimes you get really lucky though, and you find a theme song that is so great that you just want to listen to it over and over again, and I’ve found ten examples of those songs that you can hear right here on Viewster!

Renai Circulation (Bakemonogatari)

Renai Circulation sung by Kana Hanazawa is the fourth opening theme song for the series Bakemonogatari. It’s poppy in just the right way and really does a great job of capturing the youthfulness of the heroine in this particular story arc. The energy is infectious and is easily one of the best things about this particular story arc in the series. It starts at episode 10 just in case you want to skip right to it and hear exactly what I’m talking about.

Hikaru Nara (Your lie in April)

When I say that it’s important for a song to get a person into the right frame of mind and mood to watch a series, this is a song that I can point to as a prime example of how to do just that. Upbeat in tempo and matched with some fantastic visuals, the harmonies of all the different band members make this a fun song to listen to over and over again without ever getting tired of it.

Kiss You (Silver Spoon)

This is my pick for the best anime theme song of 2013 and there were a lot of great songs to choose from that year believe me! This is a fun song that is just infectious to hear and makes you just want to get up and dance. It’s not the most complicated song or technically sound but the chorus will stick with you long after you listen to it and have you randomly singing ‘Kiiiiss you’ in public (no seriously, it will and don’t blame me for the weird looks you get).

irony (OreImo)

Ear worm alert! It’s amazing how just the mere mention of this song will instantly make me remember its catchy lyrics and tune and have me humming it all day long! Sung by the mysterious first incarnation of teenage pop duo ClariS, I will never get tired of hearing this song and having it on while I am doing whatever.

Sakura Saku (Love Hina)

Some songs remain with you no matter how old they are, and those songs are ones that we refer to as ‘classics.’ The opening theme song to Love Hina titled Sakura Saku will always be a winner song because of how easily it gets into your head. To this day I’ve heard the song hundreds (maybe thousands) of times but whenever it comes on I just want to find the nearest flat surface and drum along with it until it’s over.

Daisuki na noni (Blast of Tempest)

When I started working on this list, I made sure that I didn’t label which anime each song belonged to so that I could judge each song on its merits alone. Sometimes that was hard since I was already familiar with the series in question (as you can tell by reading the above entries). In this case though, I wasn’t overly familiar with the series but the soft rock riff of this song really pulled me in and made me want to watch the series just so that I could hear the song a few more times.

Sakura Kiss (Ouran High School Host Club)

“Kiss kiss fall in love!” One of the great harem series of our time is made all the better by the sweet and easy to sing along with theme song that comes along with it. This is another song that I’ve heard many hundreds of times but I’ll never get tired of hearing it no matter how many times someone begs me to turn it off.

ideal white (Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works)

This is another song that gets you ready to watch an intense action series from the opening notes all the way to the close. Great guitar riffs, rising and falling scales and melodies, this song had me ready to see Rin take on whatever challenges came her way when I listened to it every week as I watched this series and I still consider it one of the better songs to ever be attached to a Fate series.

Going My Way (Girls Bravo)

When you think of great theme songs, I admit that the series Girls Bravo probably isn’t one of the first series to enter your mind but let’s face it… this is just a fun song that relaxes you into an equally fun fan service series.

Seven Doors (Trinity Seven)

My feelings on Trinity Seven are well known by now but that doesn’t change the fact that it had one of the best theme songs of Fall 2014! This was a song that got me hyped up every time I heard it and I think that if you take a listen to it you’ll feel similarly.
