Celebrate July 4th With Anime Characters Who Fought For What’s Right

July 4th is a very special day in the United States as that’s the day that we celebrate our independence. It’s a very special day for everyone in the country and we all like to celebrate it in our own special, unique ways. I, for example, like to celebrate the occasion the same way I celebrate every other occasion… by watching anime!

And what better anime to watch on this very special day, than series which feature characters who embody the same heroic spirit that our ancestors did more than 200 years ago, when they fought so hard against what they felt was wrong? The following characters stand out to me, as they defended with all their power, what they believed was truly right.

Minette (Blessing of the Campanella)

When you think about characters standing up for what they believe in, Minette is not the first one to come to mind, I’m sure. But in Blessing of the Campanella she did just that: going so far as being willing to sacrifice her life to save her friend, because she truly believed that was the right thing to do. How many of you out there could really, truly, seriously, honestly say that you would do such a thing and argue tooth and nail for your point, when your family tried to stop you? That takes some serious guts.

Shirou Emiya (Fate/Stay Night UBW)

Was there ever any doubt that this guy would make it onto this list? When you think of someone being willing to fight to the bitter end to stand up for what he believes in and prove his point, Shirou Emiya is the poster child of that. Over the course of 25 episodes, Shirou was willing to go up against Saber, Rin, Archer… even Gilgemesh himself in order to show that he meant business when he said that he wanted to be a hero of justice! You don’t get much more ballsy than that!

Yoshika Miyafuji (Strike Witches)

Sometimes standing up for what you believe in means having to deal with some negative consequences because of it, which makes things even harder. Yoshika had to deal with that, when she tried to defend one of the neuroi that she and the other Strike Witches were tasked with defeating. If you really, truly believe in your cause though, you have to be willing to accept that some negative things might happen and people might get hurt in the process, as Yoshika learned the hard way.
