Last week, I decided to start watching The Third: The Girl with the Blue Eye here on Viewster. I’m amazed at how much I like it, but that’s not why I started this article. I was on episode 18 of The Third when I decided to take a break. That was three days ago…
It really got me thinking—it is exhausting to try and keep up with anime. There’s so much to watch. Hell, the genre is turning 100 this year. Like most of you, I read countless articles and listen to multiple anime podcasts every week. My library of “Anime I Need to Watch” is ever expanding—looming over me like a pile of week-old laundry. And inevitably, I’ll stop watching really great shows to start new ones. Why? I have no clue. It just kinda happens fairly often.
This is the current stack of anime I need to finish:
- The Third: The Girl with the Blue Eye (episode 18/26)
- Monster (episode 21/74)
- Psycho-Pass 2 (episode 2/11)
- Assassination Classroom (episode 12/22)
- Gungrave (episode 9/26)
- Akiba’s Trip (episode 2/13)
- Tenjho Tenge (episode 14/26) (Also free on Viewster!)
- ShiroBako (episode 3/24)
- The Devil is a Part-Timer! (episode 5/13)
- Dragon Ball Super (episode 6/90)
When in the **** am I going to finish those? At a typical runtime of 23 minutes per episode, that’s nearly 89 hours of anime I need to watch. Over three-and-a-half days. And that isn’t even counting the shows/movies I haven’t started yet.
Have I mentioned that I haven’t watched a single episode of Fullmetal Alchemist or Brotherhood? Those two shows are a combined 44 hours long—nearly an entire weekend to watch two shows.
While I could eliminate some “weekend downtime” by bringing my laptop to the bathroom with me, I feel there’s a much more civilized way go about cutting down my anime stack.
I’ve always found it super easy to watch new episodes on the day of release. I wait all week and finally get to see them. The build-up every week is insane—so why can’t I apply that to my anime? I can easily watch an episode from three of those anime each day. If I can do that 5 days out of the week, I can finish that whole stack in 4-5 months.
I know I’m not the only one who has put shows on the back burner. Tell us, which shows are on your anime backlog, and how are you going about pressing play on all of them? Help!
