Gangsta: Gritty, Gloomy, Glorious

‘Gritty’ doesn’t even begin to describe this series, but if that’s not enough for you, here are some more reasons why you should give this series a chance to win you over, as much as it has for us.

Tone

Think Black Lagoon only much darker. Taking place in a fictional town which has mafia families fighting for turf and people known as twilights who fight with superhuman abilities, from drugs to prostitution this is a series that doesn’t mind going to some very dark places.

Animation

Animated by studio Manglobe, the animation in this series is top notch. Using a lighter color palette, it’s rare that you’ll see any real colors within this series unless you count the red blood that splatters across the screen every few minutes.

Characters

This isn’t a series filled with cartoon characters. If you ignore the supernatural elements, these could be real people somewhere out in the world. These could be people that you encounter on the street or call on to help you out (provided you have the money to hire them to clean up your mess).

Violence

Have we mentioned that this is a very bloody, violent series? Because it is. And it’s glorious.
