It’s another great day to be a fan of The King of the Monsters.
Earlier this week, a trailer for Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle was released, and you don’t want to know how many times I’ve watched it.
Check it out for yourself:
They’re immediately paying off the tribe that was teased in the after-credits scene in the first movie. How did that tribe survive on Earth for so long? I seriously want the lore; give it all to me. The animation already looks much better, which is a great sign for Polygon Pictures. I love the music. Godzilla’s new, purple, O-ring, atomic breath looks absolutely bad*ss.
And, of course, we somewhat get to see Mecha Godzilla. And while I’m on this point…
I don’t think those pink-winged, flying mechs are Mecha Godzilla—they have to be separate mech suits. I have gone as close to frame-by-frame on those shots as humanly possible, and the design just doesn’t look like the Mecha Godzilla in the poster.
Here’s the poster, btw:
That looks NOTHING like the pink-winged mechs. Plus, in one shot in the trailer, you can see three of them, and they only have the ONE Mecha Godzilla. Truthfully, I love them teasing this out. In a perfect world, I don’t want to see Mecha Godzilla up and functional until the ultimate showdown is about to happen.
