Gurren Lagann Is Turning 10!

Gurren Lagann by Gainax

It’s the tenth anniversary of the immensely popular anime, Gurrene Lagann. For those of you not in the know, Gurren Lagann is an anime about mechs and finding the power to believe in the person that believes in you.

Gainax is the delightful studio behind this masterpiece. Gainax is also the studio that breathed life into another popular mecha series called Neon Genesis Evangelion. Which I know didn’t garner much attention at all… I kid.

The holy grail of a boxed anime set.

I personally feel Gainax did immensely well with the Gurren Lagann series. As a result it is getting a sexy Blu-Ray release this August 8th and I am utterly psyched. It has some of the best characters and most memorable lines used in anime. The Blu-Ray itself is on two discs, with the other five making up the OA and two movies. Retail cost is 149.98USD; yikes.

The box illustration alone could send anyone into a frothing state of bliss. Personally, what makes this Blu-Ray release even better is that the anime is going to be rebroadcasted on Japanese Television starting July 5th. Tune in to station Tokyo MXTV at 12:30AM, (which means you get to stay up late for this one).

Because many of us in the wider world cannot access Japanese TV, we unfortunately have to settle for the Blu-Ray releases.

Yes, this set is pricey. But with pure nostalgia alone, it’s well worth it. Gurren Lagann is a series that is honestly as good as the day it first aired. We look forward to its release with feverish anticipation.

Whether you’re deep in mecha marathons, Japanese news, or anime binge watching, we’d like to hear about it. Click the [CONTRIBUTE]-button on our top menu bar and get your thoughts out there.
