Headphones ON: Top Five Musical Anime on Viewster

It’s not a secret in the least that we love good music in an anime series. Classical, pop, rock—it’s all good to us so long as it’s memorable. It just so happens that we have quite a few musical series here on Viewster and I wanted to highlight our favorites so that you could go forth and hear some great songs while also watching some fantastic anime in the process.

K-ON

The easiest choice for this list is one of the newest additions of the Viewster library. In 2009 an anime came out which made fans all over the world stand up and take notice for different reasons. While moe fans felt like they were being spoken to directly by the various characters and their songs, other fans were quick to lash out against the series as being bubblegum pop trash. It doesn’t matter which camp you fall into though as K-ON has proven to be a series with lasting power!

Filled with memorable moments and catchy pop tunes, this series follows Yui as she joins the light music club during her first year in high school. There she meets Mio, Ritsu, Mugi and Azusa and finds friends that she will be able to cherish for the rest of her life as they make sweet music together.

If you’re after an anime that will have you humming the music for days and days afterward you’ll want to drop everything you’re doing and check out K-ON!

Love Live

Another recent addition to Viewster is the series Love Live about a group of girls who come together to become school idols in order to save their school from being closed down. Originally released in 2013, Love Live has taken anime fans and the world by storm over the last two years. Another series with plenty of memorable songs, you should be warned that side effects to watching Love Live including bouncing in your seat, getting up and attempting to dance and letting people on social media talk you into cosplaying as one of the characters and attempting to recreate the dance sequence from the opening animation. You’ve been warned.

Your lie in April

Maybe you’re not in the mood for pop music though. Maybe you’re in the mood for something a bit more classical. Got you covered.

Your lie in April is a 2014 series about a pianist named Arima who lost his ability to play after his abusive mother passed away. One day he meets an energetic violinist named Kaori who shows him how to love life and music once again.

One of the most brilliant things about this series is the incredible beauty of the music within it. Kaori’s love of life and music is projected in just about every scene that she’s in but never is it more apparant than when she has a violin in her hands. The power of her playing will blow you away just as much as the emotional story will absolutely destroy your soul (in a good way).

Skip Beat

While not strictly a musical series, Skip Beat is no slouch in the music department. In this series, Kyoko’s ex (for lack of a better term) is aiming to become the top idol in the country and releases hit record after hit record. Towards the middle of the series there is a fantastic arc where Kyoko co-stars in a music video and the song in question is one of the better rock/visual kei songs released within an anime within the last decade or so.

La Corda D’Oro

Another series boasting a strong classical soundtrack, La Corda D’Oro is for the purists out there who want to hear songs made famous by the greatest musicians in history. Featuring beautiful music performed by talented musicians, this is THE series for classical music fans who want to hear the songs that they played while learning their own instruments.
