Who doesn’t love a good deal? We’ve compiled some tips and tricks to save you some cash when trying to attend Anime Conventions.
Join Their Mailing List:
The best place to hear about anime convention deals are through the convention’s official mailing list. Make sure you whitelist their emails so they don’t end up in your “promotions” or “spam” folder.
Follow/Like them on Social Media:
While the biggest deals require more coordination and will probably be sent out via the mailing list, smaller “flash” deals occasionally pop up on social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter from time to time. By following official convention accounts, you’ll always be in the know. For Facebook though, you may have to pop over to their page once in a while because just hitting “Like” won’t get you all their posts anymore (it’s weighted toward larger brands).
Most anime conventions are by fans, for fans, and can always use help from some fresh blood. Make sure that any convention you sign up to volunteer for has a fair policy, and never pay a convention to work for free! Volunteering at a convention should be out of mutual passion from both the staff and organizers; the good news is most conventions are this way already.
Almost every convention gradually raises their prices from when sales begin all the way up to the convention date. This helps them plan the show to be safe and efficient, and also aids in the cashflow. So take advantage by signing up early to save some cash instead of waiting until the last minute.
Just Go For It!
If all else fails when searching for a good deal, keep in mind that anime conventions already are good deals compared to other types of shows. Video game shows can be up to several hundred dollars to attend, and that doesn’t even get you panel access, which can range in the THOUSANDS of dollars.
