Sadly, the Junji Ito “Collection” is over…. (you guys remember how I ceaselessly advocated for the series.) I know that I will likely never see anything as disgusting as the “Greased” story in Episode 10. But likely due to its (truly underserved) MAL rating, I’m guessing we won’t be receiving a second season (but who knows? Hell, the Pikotaro anime somehow had two seasons).

Luckily, it appears as though this season itself was just an appetizer, because we’re about to move onto the main course: a two-episode Tomie OVA.

As you may know, Junji Ito is the GOD of horror manga. He’s created some of the most polarizing characters to ever hit shelves, but none with the lasting power of Tomie. Tomie is an enchantress/siren of sorts—she has an inescapable magnetism about her, turning mere glances into obsessions. (And turning men and women alike into murderous psychopaths.) But underneath her indescribable beauty is a monster that cannot be killed.

Before hearing about this OVA, I was fairly disappointed that we didn’t get to see more of Tomie (especially since Souichi had three stories about him), although she did make a brief appearance in Episode 9 of the anime as the artist’s muse in Painter. And while that certainly isn’t the scariest, most gruesome, or disturbing story Tomie has to offer, it is a pretty great introduction to the character.

The upcoming Tomie OVAs appear to be from Ito’s first Tomie manga, appropriately named, Tomie—a phenomenal manga. But seeing it in this animated form is a whole new beast. The Junji Ito “Collection” staff released a censored and uncensored trailer for the OVAs.

And you know what, I’m going to give you the uncensored one.

ABSOLUTELY NSFW:

As of right now, these two Tomie OVAs are to appear in the Junji Ito collection Box Set #2 and #3.

Those will be available on April 27th and May 25th, respectively.
