Okay I gotta level with you all; I love New Game. It’s delightfully beautiful and it fits so beautifully within the slice-of-life/workplace anime genre. For those of you out of the loop in-regards to this anime, allow me to fill you all in.
New Game follows the ambitions of Aoba Suzukaze as she pushes to fulfill her childhood dream of becoming a game developer. More specifically, she wishes to create memorable characters, just like her mentor. The first season explores her time working for Studio Eagle Jump and her interactions with the exclusively female workforce there (something they actually address in Season 2).
Being someone who genuinely loves game development, this title is something of a fascination for me.
What causes this anime to shine is just how utterly gorgeous it is. I mean, seriously—these background shots and character models are just absolutely amazing. Although don’t let this deter from the actual story cause this anime actually has plot.
The thing about these sort of titles is that they allow for a (slightly fictional) view into the inner workings of the industries we love. Frankly, who doesn’t love a BTS peek.
New Game S2 is looking to be a title that makes my quick list for anime of the year.
