You’d think people would have learned by now: Illegal shenanigans in the world of anime just aren’t tolerated by the industry. We’ve heard about arrests regarding illegal distribution of media before, but this one is for significantly less than we typically see.

A 32-year old man in Hino has been arrested today for distributing counterfeit autographed illustrations, supposedly autographed by Hayao Miyazaki and Makoto Shinkai.

For the past 8 months, he’s been auctioning bogus merchandise priced anywhere from $68 to $149. Shinkai himself discovered the faux-auction and reported the nonsense to the police.

The unemployed distributor was arrested shortly thereafter… Just goes to show that no amount is too small for the Japanese police to care.
