Spring is Here and So Are Eleven New Simulcasts!

Of all the different kinds of posts that I get to write for the Viewster blog, this is easily my favorite… yup, that’s right, it’s time for the quarterly simulcast introduction post! We have ELEVEN simulcasts to share with everyone this season and so I’m not going to slow you down with a long drawn out introduction. Instead, let’s get right into the list so that you can get to watching all the new anime we have to offer that much faster!

*We’ll be updating this list when shows become live on site and if possibly more titles are announced, so check back regularly if you’re waiting on a specific title or region!*

Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?

If you’re active in the anime Twitter community you’ve likely seen one character from this series retweeted multiple times by now. Her name is Hestia and she’s from the series Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? This series has been generating a ton of buzz ever since it was first announced and once the first episode premiered in Japan that quiet buzz turned into a loud roar.

Bell is an adventurer but he’s not entirely good at it. While out questing in a dungeon one day, he is almost killed by a minotaur but is saved by a beautiful female adventurer which causes Bell to fall in love instantly. Not too long later, he meets a goddess named Hestia who falls in love with him and that’s just the beginning of Bell’s quest to become stronger!

Why You Should Care

– The director and writer don’t have a lot of experience with straight up fantasy series but between them they have more than a few hit titles under their belts including Kill Me Baby, Little Busters, Date A Live and Hayate the Combat Butler.

– Pay extra close attention to the music in this series as it’s being composed by Keiji Inai who did the music for the fantasy otaku comedy Outbreak Company.

Ultimate Otaku Teacher

I’m a sucker for a good otaku comedy. I enjoy likeable characters in general but show me a likeable otaku character that you’ll sell me on a series that much faster which is exactly what Ultimate Otaku Teacher is going to attempt to do.

The main character of this series is a genius by the name of Junichiro who also happens to be an otaku. After getting his academic articles published and graduating college he becomes a NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) and spends all of his time in his bedroom keeping his anime blog up to date. Not wanting to see him waste his life, his sister gets him a job teaching at a high school.

Why You Should Care

– Ever wanted to say ‘I’ve been a fan of [insert name here] since her first role’? Well, this is your chance because Rena Matsui is making her seiyuu debut as Junichiro’s sister.

Gunslinger Stratos

Based off a video game, this is another series from A-1 Pictures that has generated a fairly large amount of buzz since it was first announced. The question is, can it capitalize on it?

The story for this series mostly takes place in the year 2115 when Japan is split into two alternate futures; one is mostly peaceful and one is mostly filled with gunfights and death. The main characters somehow find themselves in the latter world and must figure out what is going on and how they can get back home.

Why You Should Care

– The crew for this series are largely inexperienced but that just means that they’ll be that much hungrier to make a name for themselves!

– One name attached to this project that hardcore fans should immediately recognize is Gen Urobuchi (Psycho-Pass, Madoka Magica) who created the original scenario.

Fate/stay night [Unlimited Blade Works] (Part 2)

Two seasons ago this was my most anticipated series of the Fall 2014 season. Now the second half has become my most anticipated series of the Spring 2015 season.

The first half of this series left off on a pretty big cliffhanger… Saber has been taken by Caster, Rin and Emiya are in deep trouble and new enemies are appearing on the horizon. Who is going to take the holy grail by the end of this season? You’ll have to wait to find out!

Why You Should Care

– If you didn’t watch the first half of this series when it first premiered a few months ago, you need to drop everything that you’re doing and go marathon it right now. No, not later. Right now!

– ufotable has built a very solid fanbase over the last few years thanks to their amazing work with Fate/Zero and this series is only helping their cause even more.

Plastic Memories

Dogakobo has managed to put together some pretty decent anime adaptations so far but what is going to happen with their first completely original work?

In this series, the main character is named Tsukasa and he lives in a future where androids live alongside people. He takes a job with a corportation which produces androids that have the ability to feel emotion but come with a limited lifespan. His new job is to partner up with one of these androids and retrieve the ones that are either defective, problematic or are just past their lifespan.

Why You Should Care

– While Dogakobo have done plenty of comedies in the past they are taking a huge gamble with their first original project being a sci-fi series that will tackle more serious subject matters. While there are certainly going to be laughs along the way, don’t be shocked if this one attempts to make you shed a tear or two as well.

– The writer for this series is Naotaka Hayashi who has previously worked on Steins;Gate and Robotics;Notes so at least the studio found an experienced sci-fi writer to tackle this one.

The Heroic Legend of Arslan

This is not a new property. Not by a long shot. Will the fans of today care about a title that was originally released so long ago though? I missed the Arslan boat the first time around so I’m really excited to see how this one plays out in TV form.

Arslan is the heir to kingdom of Pars which has enjoyed a long run of prosperity and military domination. Unfortunately all things must come to an end and eventually the nation falls to a rival nation, Lusitania. Now Arslan is on the run with a warrior named Daryun and must figure out a way to save his kingdom.

Why You Should Care

– They wouldn’t be reviving this series so many years later if there weren’t something special about it so that should tell you something right there.

– This is going to be a very action packed series thanks in part to director Noriyuki Abe (Bleach, Yu Yu Hakusho) and series composition by Makoto Iezu (Akame ga Kill).

Seraph of the End

Did you enjoy Attack on Titan and The Rolling Girls? Well then I have a series that you won’t want to miss.

A mysterious virus has killed every adult on the planet leaving only children aged 13 and younger behind. Luckily for them, vampires appear out of nowhere so that they can care for these children… oh wait, did I say care for? I meant to say enslave. Yeah, that’s the word I was looking for. After four years of this though, Yuichiro has had enough and makes a daring escape. This is the story of his vow for revenge against the vampires.

Why You Should Care

– This is a series from Wit Studio who have previously worked on Attack on Titan and The Rolling Girls so if you liked either of those series, you’ll want to be sure to check this one out as well.

– This is the full directorial debut for Daisuke Tokudo.

Baby Steps 2

Maybe vampires aren’t your thing. Maybe you want some hard hitting sports action instead. Well in that case, Viewster has you covered with the second season of this popular tennis series.

In the second season of Baby Steps, the main character is headed to Florida to participate in a special training program where he will be pitted against tennis players from all over the world.

Why You Should Care

– If you enjoyed the first season you’ll be happy to know that besides the new character being introduced, the cast and crew is pretty much completely unchanged.

Mikagura School Suite

School clubs and special powers is the name of the game in this series from Dogakobo!

The main character is named Eruna and she dreams of a fun school life filled with club activities and friends. Sadly those dreams are crushed when she finds out that the school she has entered pits club members against each other with special powers in order to determine who is going to be the club rep!

Why You Should Care

– This series is interesting in that it’s based off a light novel series which are based off vocaloid songs so expect this one to be very colorful at the very least.

– The last series that director Tarou Iwasaki worked on was One Week Friends and he handled that marvelously. Will lightning strike twice?

Ninja Slayer

We have plenty of vampires this season but won’t anyone think of the ninjas? Once again, Viewster has you covered!

Taking place in Neo Saitama, this is the story of a salaryman who has lost his family to violent ninja souls who have been unleashed in the city. After being possessed by one of these ninja souls himself, he vows revenge on the violent spirits which took his family away from him.

Why You Should Care

– Every season there’s at least one title where you just read the story synopsis and know that you have to at least check it out and for me this is that series.

– The animation for this series is being produced by Studio Trigger (Kill la Kill, When Supernatural Battles Became Commonplace) who have been building up quite a strong reputation over the last couple of years.

Vampire Holmes

Need another vampire series? How about a series of shorts about a vampire detective in London?

Taking place in London, vampires have been killing residents and no one knows what to do about it. Enter a mysterious man who calls himself Holmes to the rescue!

Why You Should Care

– If you want to watch a vampire series but don’t want to commit to a full length series this is your answer!
