Squishy, Aqua Robots Are Totally A Thing

We feel like this is something pulled straight out of Blue Submarine No. 6.

Chinese scientists have created a robot worthy of your favorite mecha: A squishy, flexible, swimming robot that replicates the grace of a manta ray. This little ray-bot features silicone fins and polymer muscles, designed to navigate coral reefs without interfering with its surroundings (including ocean-life).

Throw a camera on it and it’s destined to do something helpful, although exactly what yet it TBD. Either way, we’re inching closer and closer to a world of anime fantasy than we previously ever thought possible.

Freakin’ cool.

Get the full deets over at The Verge, and maybe don’t go skinny dipping in China anytime soon.
