These American TV Shows Are Basically Anime

Some people have a tendency to look down on anime as just cartoons or think they are just for kids (we pity them). What many people don’t understand is that the plots and stories of anime are not that far off from many popular live-action television shows. Check out these examples and TRY to tell me they don’t sound like the plots of anime shows:

The CW hit show The Vampire Diaries just wrapped their series after eight seasons. There were shapeshifters, doppelgangers, werewolves, witches, and, of course, vampires. It all centered around young sexy brooding characters that were all too attractive to ever be mistaken for average teens and them trying to survive among all the crazy monsters trying to kill them on a weekly basis. …Sound familiar to anyone? *COUGH* Highschool of the Dead.

Pretty Little Liars
, a television series on ABC, was all based around a group of ridiculously attractive female high school students with a giant conspiracy that was overwhelmingly complex. It also featured straight, gay and transgender main characters. If you’re intrigued by that, you might like a more brutal take on school conspiracy drama with Kill la Kill.

Roswell was a Warner Bros. show about young aliens hiding out in, you guessed it, Roswell, New Mexico. Luckily, the aliens turned out to all look like sexy teenagers without big eyes or grey skin. Somehow, the relationship drama always took center stage over the fact that the government was chasing the aliens down. School kids taking on an alien invasion? For the lighter anime version, you should check out Wonder Momo.

CHALLENGE: Can you name other mainstream shows that could pass themselves off as anime? Comment below.
