Viewster Staff Picks: Summer Simulcasts

Now that we’re near the halfway point of the simulcast summer season, I’m checking back in to rank my personal top five currently running on Viewster. These aren’t the series that are doing the best or worst on the platform, these are just my five favorites in order of what has me most excited to watch new episodes every single week.

What are your favorite currently running Viewster simulcasts? Sound off in the comments and let us know! Here are my picks:

1. Gangsta

I’ve written before about how much I love this series and that still holds true to this day. Gritty and violent doesn’t even begin to describe this title and I can’t recommend it highly enough for those very same reasons. Every episode bring new truths to light and ups the ante when it comes to just how brutal it can get. If you like series about adult characters in very adult situations, you’ll want to check this series out if you haven’t already.

2. The Heroic Legend of Arslan

Every single week Arslan manages to amaze and impress me. From the wonderful animation to the gripping story, Arslan has it all and is really one of those perfect series which has a little something for everyone. There’s little to complain about here and I’m finding myself enjoying this series more and more as it progresses. One can only hope that this series gets to stick around for many more seasons to come!

3. Castle Town Dandelion

One of the finest comedies of the season, Castle Town Dandelion makes me giggle and smile on a very regular basis. The characters are charming and the story is just plain fun. While it’s still much too early to guess on if it will stand the test of time, at this present moment this is one of those series which will live on in my memory for quite awhile after it ends.

4. Aoharu x Machinegun

Another solid comedy. This particular gem caught me off guard at the start of the season but is no less amazing because of it. Another series that you can describe as fun, this is a great tongue in cheek entry into the ‘survival games’ theme which has become so popular over the last couple of years. This is due in large part to the eccentric cast of characters which will have you chuckling week in and week out.

5. Charlotte

I admit it, I didn’t like Charlotte at first because the main character was such a colossal jerk. I mean let’s face it, when you put a young girl’s life in jeopardy in the very first episode simply to get a date with her, that ranks you pretty high on the asshole scale. That being said, Charlotte has managed to win me over by knocking the main character down a few pegs and introducing an interesting story that leaves the audience guessing as to where it is going to go next.

Honorable Mention:

Classroom Crisis

Classroom Crisis is another series where I wasn’t sure how I felt about it early on or how much I really enjoyed it. By the halfway mark though those doubts have been cast aside and this series has made me into a believer. Classroom Crisis is compelling in a way that not many series can claim to be these days and that’s certainly something to be proud of, considering how this is an original story by an untested production studio.

  • Aoharu x Machingun is probably been the best anime I’ve seen this summer but Charlotte did surprise I actually seemed to like the main character even though he did take advantage of girls.

  • I completely agree with Jazzy. Aoharu x Machingun is incredible and I have no problem with the main character of Charlotte. I mean Light in Death Note was hardly a saint and look how popular Death Note is right now. People shouldn’t hate on an anime series just simply because the main character is a bit of a jerk to start with. There’s a lot more too Charlotte than just the protagonist and you see less of him as the series develops with new characters.
