Never do know what you’re going to uncover when you dive into the world of Japanese news.
In this instance, it’s a regular Saturday morning in the Honmachi area of Higashiyama Ward of Kyoto City… Two wild boars, most likely a mother and child, made their way into the streets and set of a panic that only lasted a few minutes (but will scar a lifetime).
Check out the Japanese news report:
No one knows what set the animals on their raid, but apparently wild boars are a bit hard to wrangle when they are upset. The duo started things off by ramming a high school girl in the streets, then retreated into a senior citizen facility by crashing through its door. A couple of the facility workers attempted to manage the boar… But their attempt failed and the boar continued their raid back into the streets. Their next victim was an 81 year old woman that was knocked to the ground and suffered a fractured wrist. A retired police officer jumped into to try and protect this woman, but he, too, received some bites and scratches to his arms and legs.
The climax of this street battle came when four men united to confront the wild animals. They were only armed with bits of wood against the teeth and hooves of these creatures. An unnamed carpenter said,
I fought the wild boar for about 10 minutes with a 2×4, but it didn’t give an inch. It was scary.
The boar family retreated back into the wilderness shortly after this whole crisis started. Apparently, a boar sighting is pretty common in these parts and they like to chow down on the bamboo that grows nearby. Attacks like this though are pretty rare and luckily, no one was too seriously injured during the whole melee.
