Anime So Good You Won’t Leave Your Computer For Days

Sorry America. It’s been awhile since we showed you some love. Think of us like the significant other who forgot your birthday, and is now trying to make it up to you. Let’s get this all out on the table; we don’t ever want you to leave our side, ever. Call this list a bribe all you want, but it’s more a gesture of good faith.

Take this as a ‘I’ll just leave this here‘ type of thing. And if you aren’t the list type of person, browse our current anime catalog for yourself.

The rogue vampire Alucard is the Hellsing Organization’s deadliest instrument in its mission to protect the British Empire from undead ghouls and satanic freaks. He is not alone in his assault on the occult; fallen Policewoman Seras Victoria is his servant. Welcome to Irabu’s Office

Welcome to Irabu’s Office, where you may be greeted by a man in a bear mask, holding a giant needle, who’s ready to cure your ills. Based on the short stories “Psychiatrist Irabu” by Hideo Okuda, we get to know the eccentric Dr. Ichiro Irabu (Yūji Mitsuya) who has a fetish for injections, and a rather strange methodology. The series interweaves the stories of eleven different patients, each suffering from wildly different symptoms. Despite his weird approach, Dr. Irabu (who changes his appearance more than Madonna), does succeed in helping each of his patients … eventually. With crazy visuals and a super-weird sense of humor, this is a unique entry in art-house anime style.

El Cazador De La Bruja

A fun and dirt-filled spaghetti Western road movie, featuring a sassy bounty hunter and a witch. Set in the dusty border crossroads of Mexico, where ancient spirits and modern science meet, a storm of conspiracy is brewing low in the desert sky. The two form a fast bond and begin traveling south, led only by an old fortune-teller’s words and Ellis’s vague feeling that something awaits her there.

Casshern Sins

The world is dying and full of robots and they are very, very pissed off. Particularly with a guy named Casshern, an amnesiac assassin with no memory of who he is or how he destroyed the planet by bringing on The Ruin. If the plot seems opaque at first don’t worry because Casshern obviously has no clue either, and things become clearer as he slaughters grotesque machines who want to eat him. An engrossing, serious show for those who dig smashing things and apocalyptic mayhem.

Sarai-ya Goyou

Set in the Edo period of Japan, this is a slow-paced dreamlike series that unfurls like a psychedelic lotus blossom. Tomomi Mochizuki (Toka Gettan, Porfy no Nagai Tabi), lends his voice as Akitsu Masanosuke, a shy, clumsy Ronin (oxymoron?) with excellent swordsman skills. Masanosuke, though, is prone to getting fired … and often. When he meets Yaichi (voice of Takahiro Sakurai), the charismatic leader of a mysterious group called “Five Leaves,” he reluctantly takes a job as his bodyguard. But soon enough, he begins to wonder if this ragtag bunch of Samurai are brave heroes, or merely petty thieves. This is a slow-burner—but trippy and surreal—with a haunting soundtrack.

Naota is fooling around with his brother’s ex-girlfriend when a crazed girl on a motor scooter runs him over, brains him with a bass guitar, and moves into his house. This pink-haired girl, Haruko, claims she’s an alien and hurls Naota into the middle of a mega corporate conspiracy. Oh, and now giant battling robots shoot from his skull. Mix in mind-bending animation and tunes that echo through your cerebellum and you’ll fall hard for FLCL. From the creators of anime classics End of Evangelion and Gurren Lagann.

OHSHC is a strange Cinderella story that outshines typical Shoujo fare, sweetly illustrating wacky plot twists with dynamic animation and serving up a virgin cocktail of comic teen drama.
