It’s time for another look-in on that most wondrous of trends: the anime collaboration café. Japanese companies regularly celebrate new releases by creating pop-up restaurants filled with themed food, limited-edition goods, and photo spots. And since we can’t get always stop in ourselves, we love to admire them from afar.
Here are a few of the latest to check out next time you’re in Japan:
Sakura Fantasy Café
Who doesn’t love Cardcaptor Sakura? The CLAMP classic came back this year with the Clear Card arc, and it’s a great time to be a fan.
To celebrate the show and its return, multiple restaurants are hosting the Sakura Fantasy Café. The limited-run event will feature pastel treats evocative of the show’s characters and Sakura’s many costumes. Our personal favorites? The individual afternoon tea and the pastel grilled cheese sandwich.
The café will run in Tokyo, Osaka, and Saitama. A few menu items will change between locations, but you’ll be able to grab pretty much any of the adorable merch created for the event.
Seven Deadly Sins: The Boar Hat
We love it when a collab café styles itself after an in-universe eatery. And that’s just what The Seven Deadly Sins is doing with its new collaboration!
The Boar Hat, held to promote the upcoming Seven Deadly Sins movie Prisoners of the Sky, even features branded tableware and glasses! You can also pick up a plushie version of Hawk, the show’s piggy mascot, when you dine there.
The menu includes a range of dishes themed to characters and events from the manga. We especially like the look of “Merlin’s Mysterious Drink,” a two-part concoction with cotton candy dissolved into it.
Kiratto Pri☆Chan: Prism Stone Café
And plans are afoot for the Prism Stone Café, an event celebrating the successor series to Pretty Rhythm and PriPara. At the time of this writing, all we have are some images of Kiratto Pri☆Chan stars Mirai and Emo as chefs and waitresses. But the events lined up sound promising!
For starters, the café will be hosting an anniversary mini live starring Run Girls, Run! The idol group debuted the theme for the new series a year ago this summer, and will be on hand to reprise the act for café patrons.
The cute new art will also be around the shop as life-sized standees, so fans of the anime can get perfect selfies with their favorite characters. We can’t wait to see how the menu looks!
You know where to find us next time we’re in Japan.
