Everything We Know About The Live Action Bleach Movie So Far

The live action Bleach adaptation is set to hit theaters in Japan in July, and it looks amazing.

The trailers and posters have brought Bleach fever back into full-swing. The movie will adapt the first arc of the manga, the Substitute Shinigami Arc (and of course, there’s potential for a trilogy if this one does well).

For its manga fans, a new one shot manga will be made to help prepare for the movie. According to Manga Keiton, there will be three parts featuring a compilation of the best scenes, and will appear in the July issue of Saikyou Jump.

Back to the movie, film producer Koi recently explained the storyline decision:

I want to do the Soul Society arc. After all, if the first one succeeds, you can spend more money and time on the second to present a bigger sequel to the world. It would be a good thing for the franchise.

For those of you unaware, the ‘Soul Society’ arc is the second big story of Bleach. It takes place after the story’s debut ‘Substitute Soul Reaper’ arc as it sees Rukia on death row. After being arrested by her older brother, Rukia is sentenced to death for breaking one of the Soul Society’s sacred rules, but Ichigo Kurosaki is not okay with the conviction. He pulls together a team and infiltrates the Soul Society to rescue Rukia, a choice that brings him face-to-face with the Gotei 13 and its terrifying captains.

Cast members were recently announced, including Masami Nagasawa, Yosuke Eguchi, Seiichi Tanabe, Erina Mano, and Yu Koyanagi. (Grab the full list here.)

Masami Nagasawa is to play Ichigo’s late mother Masaki Kurosawa and Yosuke Eguchi will play the role of Ichigo’s father Isshin Kurosaki. Seiichi Tanabe will be playing the eccentric Kusuke Urahara, who supports the Hollow-fighting Souls Reapers. Erina Mano is to play Ichigo’s classmate Orihime Inoue and Koyanagi is to play another classmate, Yasutora Sado.

Bleach will hit hit theaters in Japan on July 20th. Shinsuke Sato, the director of Gantz and I Am a Hero, is directing the movie.
