In a special gaming event that crosses over with Avengers: Infinity War, players of Fortnite will now have a chance to play as the mad titan Thanos himself and wield all the power of the Infinity Gauntlet.

The exact powers of the Infinity Gauntlet in-game aren’t yet known, but they are sure to be impressive.

Players can now unlock the “Infinity Gauntlet Limited Time Mashup” within the normal Fortnite: Battle Royale mode. This session will work like normal except for the fact that one player will have the opportunity to find and equip the Infinity Gauntlet. This player will transform in Thanos and be granted great power for the duration of the session.

If someone is able to kill Thanos, then the gauntlet will be available once again for grab.

The gauntlet will be carried to the battlefield by one of the game’s famed meteors. It sounds like this whole event will be 99 vs Thanos once the Infinity gems hit the floor. This limited time special appears to be the brain child of the directors of Avengers: Infinity War, the Russo brothers. Apparently they are big fans of Fortnite and Epic Games.

Worldwide creative director of Epic Games, Donald Mustard had this to say,

Out of the blue, I get this call from Joe (Russo). And after a bit of geeking out over each other’s work, we start brainstorming these crazy ideas,” Mustard recalled. “It was really important that whatever we did, it had to be super authentic to both Fortnite and the Avengers: Infinity War, and something that fans of both would be excited about….This kind of opportunity, where you have this mutual respect for someone’s work and you’re on the same page about doing something cool for fans, is rare and really exciting. We hope players love it.

Fortnite and Epic Games have made quite a reputation for special events and big surprise in game… and could be the sign of more to come.

UPDATE: Epic Games has announced that the Fortnite Infinity Gauntlet limited time mode will be ending on 5/15.
