Admit it: you kind of love the bad guys in your favorite shows. There’s an appeal to the dark, uninhibited villains of anime and tokusatsu. The makers of Ultraman know that — and their new project aims to appeal to that love of baddies.
Whispers from the Darkness
The new team-up is called “Darkness Heels,” and features five popular villains from the Ultra Series. Villains who made the cut are highly intriguing, with strong back story and characterization. With a theme of “inviting whispers from the dark,” Darkness Heels focuses on the baddies who are so cool, we can’t help but love them.
The line takes a cue from the world of wrestling, where “heel” is the term for a story’s antagonist. And, as with wrestling, sometimes it really is just more fun to pay attention to the bad guy.
Five Ultraman villains are in the mix: Ultraman Belial, Dark Zagi, Evil Tiga, Camearra, and Jugglus Juggler. But what will this fearsome team-up be doing? First off, a live event.
Taking on Tokyo
The team makes its debut this fall with Darkness Heels World, a live event taking place at Tokyo Solamachi. The whole thing kicks off with the unveiling of an Ultraman Belial statue. The villain will stand 3.6 meters tall, and inhabit Tokyo Solamachi’s west yard.
After that, the monsters descend on the venue for the last two weeks of this month. Fans can enjoy exhibitions and photo spots themed after the five characters, as well as limited-edition Ultraman goods. And, of course, the five Heels will be making appearances for photo ops!
What’s next for the Darkness Heels after their live event? We don’t know just yet, but we can think of all sorts of possibilities. The team would be a huge hit at more live events and collaborations. And we wouldn’t say no to a TV special someday.
