This Harem’s Latest Episode Completely Caught Us Off-Guard

Last time I wrote about When Supernatural Battles Became Commonplace I was pretty harsh with it. I was never planning on giving up on it (I’m in this until the end!) but the whole introduction of a secret war that is being controlled and bet on by fairies was just too much for me to handle and really took away from my enjoyment of what was, up to that point, a very fun, slice of life, romantic comedy.

In this week’s episode though all is forgiven as the series returns to its roots and begins to build towards something that fans have been waiting for since the beginning: Who will Jurai Andou choose as his best girl?

The harem has been growing steadily and even though at times there have been issues popping up (such as with Hatoko a couple of episodes ago or Sayumi before her), the feelings shared by all of these characters have become very apparent and real. For whatever reason, all of these girls love Andou and want to be with him but are too afraid to actually confess their feelings without a little bit of help.

The fairies in question. My head hurts.

Sayumi is approached by someone who is seemingly an innocent bystander who just wants to have an entertaining show when it comes to seeing who Andou ends up with. Meanwhile Hatoko and Tomoyo are locked in a stand off in the classroom as Hatoko reveals her true feelings to Tomoyo.

THIS is the kind of subplot that I’ve been waiting for them to introduce ever since the beginning. THIS is what I’ve been wanting to see since they started to even hint at the idea of these girls having feelings for Andou and I’m incredibly hopeful that they stick with it for at least a couple of more episodes because this is the kind of situation that the audience of When Supernatural Battles Became Commonplace has been craving.

Very rarely in harem anime do we get to see the protagonist actually choose a female to settle down with. There are exceptions to that rule of course but usually they go with a very wishy-washy ending that involves no one being chosen. It is my sincere hope that by the end of this series Andou chooses a girl and we get a happily ever after ending that doesn’t involve any kind of secret war. It’s very possible that I’m asking for a bit too much with this but maybe, just maybe, I’ll get my wish. A guy can dream right?
